Normally I only buy things at the store that are on sale or that I have a coupon for. While walking through our grocery store yesterday, I came across a box of Duncan Hines Holiday Velvets cake mix. I broke my own rule. I paid full price ($1.99) for a box of cake mix plus I bought the frosting (thankfully that was on sale).
I thought what a great way to kickoff the holiday season so we will indulge. I made the cake for dessert last night and we were pretty disappointed with the results. Each layer is very dense and thick. Each layer required two eggs, 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup oil. So this cake ends up with 2 eggs, 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of oil.
The cake is edible but it’s not the normal texture of red velvet cake and unfortunately it’s not moist.
I’ve bought several Duncan Hines cake mixes and I still will as we enjoy them. However, we will not purchase this particular mix again.
**I bought this cake mix on my own to try it. This review was totally my own opinion**
