Is Dublin on your Bucket List? It has been on our bucket list until a few weeks ago! We took a family trip to Dublin! A part of our trip was sponsored, however, our food and souvenirs were not.
First of all, if you haven’t discovered Dublin yet, you simply must add it to your bucket list! My husband and I are both of Irish descent so we couldn’t think of any better of a place to go and explore!
If you are looking for historic buildings, a city soaked in culture and authentic Irish foods, shops and pubs, then Dublin is a must visit!
There is SO much to see and do in Historic Downtown Dublin! Shops, Restaurants, the Irish Fairy Door Tour of Dublin, Arts and Music and so much more near Dublin like the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium and Zoombezi Bay Water Park!
I know you just said, wait, what? Columbus? You mean like Columbus in Columbus Ohio? Yes, I mean like Columbus Ohio!! As a part of our Summer exploration we ventured over to Dublin Ohio. Having grown up in Ohio, I hate to admit that I had never been to Dublin! I had been to Columbus before to COSI and a few other things but never Dublin.
After arriving in Dublin, we checked into our hotel, Sonesta ES Suites (I will be doing a separate review on Sonesta ES Suites in addition to this post. After getting settled into our room, we decided to venture out to discover a local eatery that the locals love to dine at. While going through our vacation planner, we ended up choosing the Sunny Street Café. Parking is plentiful as the café is located in a shopping plaza.
After we placed our order, my oldest remarked that it’s easy to tell you were near Dublin because of this on the table!
I just realized I never did get a picture of what my husband ordered besides the smoothie, however, thanks to great recommendations from our waitress this is what we decided on.
After a hearty lunch, we headed off to our first attraction on our itinerary and that was the Columbus Zoo! This was the first time we had ever been to the zoo! The zoo is rated the #1 Zoo according to USA Travel Guide. (I will be doing a separate post on the zoo) After spending the afternoon at the zoo, we decided to indulge in some local cuisine at the Dublin Village Tavern.
The Dublin Village Tavern is a must eat at! Oh my gosh! The beer battered fish and chips is amazing!! My husband enjoyed the Irish Kettle Dinner.
After a very fulfilling dinner, we decided to head back to the hotel so the kids could play in the pool and relax before bedtime.
The next day we started off the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel then headed to Indian Run Falls Park. Did you know that there was a cascading waterfall in the heart of Dublin? The waterfall were absolutely beautiful!
Once our adventure was over at the park, we headed to explore Historic Downtown Dublin.
Historic Downtown Dublin is very quaint. I loved the architecture of the buildings and the atmosphere! Once we found a parking spot, we started our journey at the Dublin CVB (remember the CVB in each city you visit is a must stop!). Welcome to Dublin!
Our girls participated in the Irish Fairy Doors of Dublin Tour and the first spot to find the first Fairy was at the CVB! As we walked around downtown, we stopped and checked out quite a few very quaint and unique shops! I could have spent a lot more time there but I foresee a girls shopping getaway there soon!
The tour was quite the adventure for our youngest. She absolutely loves fairies so this was perfect for her to try and find them! At the end of the tour, you can go back to the CVB to turn in your tour guide with all of the fairies names on them and you will receive a free shirt!
One of the shops we stopped at when were on the tour was the Chelsea Borough Home. This shop had some very cool, unique and exquisite pieces inside. Did I mention you can also order online from them?
Another shop that we absolutely all adored and a definite stop on your tour is the Ha’Penny Bridge Imports of Ireland.
We had a lovely time in the store. The owners were fantastic and explained the Irish Fairy Doors tradition, about many of the products in the store, what Dublin was like when Al Gleine, the owner first moved here and his lovely wife, Anne, also found the perfect ring for our teenage daughter! She loves her Claddagh Ring. Anne explained the history of the ring to us. It is a lovely tradition!
For my husband and I, we found these coffee mugs (wanna guess which one is mine?)
There are several other shops in Historic Downtown Dublin:
- 1 Stop Bead Shop
- Audacious Boutique
- boho72 boutique
- Columbus Bride & Groom
- Creative Vacations
- Our CupCakery
- The Shoppes at River Ridge
- Woodhouse Day Spa
For our youngest who wanted a snack, we ventured into Sisters Sweet Shoppe (they are also on the tour). Needless to say we all left with a snack because when you are a transplanted Buckeye, you must simply have to have Buckeye Crunch in your life.
For lunch, we decided to dine at Brazenhead. The atmosphere inside this Irish pub is pretty awesome! Many items you see inside the pub were brought over from Ireland including the bar and the dining room fireplace. The inside of this building is full of beautiful old wooden pieces. And the food is pretty awesome too!
After a very filling lunch, we headed over to Zoombezi to spend the remainder of our day. We headed back home later that evening.
There is so much to do in Dublin Ohio! It really is worth the trip! There is something for everyone there! I think once you discover Dublin, you will agree that #irishisanattitude and it’s definitely #sodublin!
Thank you to the Dublin CVB for the amazing getaway! We can’t wait to come back!
