Last Friday I had the opportunity to be a part of a phone interview with Judge Lauren Lake. I have to admit that before the interview I was very nervous. However, shortly after our introductions, talking with Lauren was like talking with a good friend over coffee! Throughout our interview, it became very clear that she is a very down to earth person whose goal in life is to give back anyway she can. Not only is she a Judge, she is also a entrepreneur, singer, advocate and a Mom!
Growing up Lauren had the dream of being a psychiatrist or an anesthesiologist. However during her Junior year in collage, she started to rethink her course. She called her parents and told them about her decision and that she wanted to become a professional singer! Since both of her parents have a strong belief in post-graduate degrees and have their PhD’s, you can imagine their surprise when Lauren said that to them! She said there was “dead silence” on the phone and after the shock wore off they told her to come up with another degree and sing on the side. And also that she had until the next day to decide on a new major! And that is when her decision to go into Law came into focus.
Since Lauren is so passionate about different aspects of her life, I thought it would be neat to do a focus on each part of her life.
Lauren On Being A Mom:
Lauren, who is a Mom to a young son feels that it is important each day to do an ‘hourly evaluation”. Re-evaluate your day and adjust accordingly. She also feels that it’s important to “Prioritize” and most importantly, “Do Not Sweat The Small Stuff”!! If something doesn’t get done each day, that’s ok. There is always tomorrow.
Lauren On Her Greatest Influence:
Each of us had the opportunity to ask her a question. My question to her was “Who Was Your Greatest Influence”. She replied that her greatest influence was “her late Mother and her Father. They allowed me to grow and discover myself. They gave me the room to be creative”
