Wow, what a vacation we had! There is so much to do around Southern Ohio/Northern Kentucky!
I had fully planned on doing a blog review on the Newport on the Levee and the Newport Aqarium. I had researched this as a tourism destination and had planned to spend the whole day there the following day.
Newport on the Levee is advertised as a must see attraction in Northern Kentucky. The Aquarium is there as well as 13 restaurants, 14 shops, and numerous activities!
Unfortunately, our plans changed due to an incident we had at the Levee. Our day at the Zoo ended earlier than I had planned so we went ahead and went to the Levee and figured we would get a late lunch, take it back to the hotel, let the kids rest up, then go back and spend the later part of the day at the Levee then go back the next day for the Aquarium and more shopping and food.
I was overjoyed when I saw that Tom + Chee was there! We are huge Shark Tank fans so when we saw that was one of the restaurants, that just topped off our visit! I mean, can we say Grilled Cheese doughnut!?
While we were waiting for our food to be prepared, I went outside to take some pictures. As a blogger and the family photographer, I love taking pictures. As a blogger, I always make sure I follow all rules that companies and attractions have. I research companies and attractions before we go so we don’t break any rules. And as soon as we arrive, we always look for signage advising of any rules.
After I snapped my first picture, I heard someone yelling at me, “Ma’am what are you doing?”. As I looked in that direction there was a security officer coming quickly at me. I simply replied “taking pictures”. I was then informed pictures are not allowed to be taken of tenant buildings. No where on the Levee’s website nor on the property are signs or language that states no photography allowed. So I did not know I couldn’t take pictures. I simply said I’m sorry and the guard left.
If that is the rule, that is fine and I totally respect that. However, to have a security guard yelling at someone like they were a criminal isn’t very respectful or courteous. Especially when it is not posted anywhere. Had I been approached quietly and discretely and told that was the policy, I would have apologized and thought no more of it. Had I been directed to signage that stated that, I would have apologized and thought no more of it. But when I security guard yells at a visitor and comes running at them like I was stealing or breaking something, that I where I have a problem.
We looked around and there were all kinds of people taking pictures and videos walking through the center and no one was approaching them.
We spent the rest of the evening at our hotel. That honestly ruined the rest of my day for me and my family. No one really felt like going back to the Levee after we rested and ate. Nor did we go to the Aquarium the next day. We went elsewhere on our way home.
I wish I could say that Newport on the Levee and the Newport Aquarium was a terrific travel destination for your family. It very well may be. All I can say is that the food from Tom + Chee was great. And that it seems, that photography isn’t allowed on the premises. I have emailed the Leeve to confirm that they had a no photography policy. I will post that as an update as soon as I know.
